the statement means that sometimes people like to lose their logic and cause a lie to be believed by others.So if a lie is more interesting than the truth then people will choose to put their trust in the first statement which is false.As an example we can take into consideration the fact that Queen of Russie Ecaterjna was believed to have slept with every worker in the castle ,a statement that is believed by others but clearly not true since it seems impossible to sleep with more that 200 hundred people in a few years. As a conclusion i think that in the future we should consider not believing everything you hear.
