Thomas "Tom" Cat is a fictional character and one of the two main protagonists in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's series of Tom and Jerry theatrical cartoon short films, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. It is a blue/grey anthropomorphic domestic short-haired cat.In the first episode of the series he was known as Jasper,but starting from the second one his name was changed to Tom-Thomas. Tomcat is a name given to the male cats , so he became a representative character and one of the most important cats in a cartoon . He is loved and hated, taken as a positive or negative example, but all the planet knows him.There's not a single child who cannot recognize him, who has never watched a Tom and Jerry episode or had a picture of him, a t-short, a poster .
He rarely speaks during his appearances in the show, mostly known as a non -speaking character ,just making sounds ,like screams when he is in pain or panic. In most episodes he is set to eat Jerry the mouse or to compete with him, although sometimes they can get along quite well. He is endowed with human intelligence and most of the times he is depicted as a biped .Tom is usually defeated by his ''enemy''.Jerry, and rarely wins.
