Snow adventures
We're in Tromsø, Norway and we're getting ready to go dog sledding.
There's thick snow on the ground and it's -4°C. The dogs are running
round. They want to start their work for today. First, the guide gives us
special boots, gloves and thick jackets. Then, he explains how to drive
the Bled - a vehicle pulled by animals that is used for carrying people
or things over snow. Finally, we get onto the sled, hold the reins and the
dogs start running. There are usually between eight and twelve dogs
for each sled, and together they can run very fast! It's scary, but also
very exciting! After two hours of sledding, we stop at a Sami tent and sit Dogs pulling a sled
by the fire. We drink hot tea and have a traditional Sami snack.
It's starting to get dark and we go back outside. There are strange
colours in the night sky-green, orange and pink lights. We're looking
at the Northern Lights. Solar wind comes from the sun and as it moves
through Earth's atmosphere, it makes these amazing colours. It's fantastic!
