The hero is invariably outsmarted by the villain.
Outdistance= leave someone or something far behind
If you outdistance your opponents in a contest of some kind, you beat them easily.
Outdo= to be better than someone else
He always tries to outdo everybody else in the class
Outrun= to run faster than someone or something
The men easily outran the police officer who was chasing them.
Outgrow= to grow faster than
My seven-year-old got new shoes in April, and he's already outgrown them.
Outsell= to be sold in greater numbers than another thing
